Fog

On a foggy morning in Maine, there is a simple elegance revealed in the images captured under this blanket of mist that has always drawn me to rise early and spawn some of my impressions of Maine.

Rocks

Some were the long smooth granite ones filled with grooved channels. In tones of gray and white with patches of rust- like mineral content, they looked as if an artist had taken a paint brush to create their masterpiece.

Water

Maine’s ocean waters with their ever-changing moods have captured the creative imagination of artists of all mediums who try to express its power and grace; the endless rolling of its movement.

The Dinghy

Lovingly built by hand over hours of meticulous craftsmanship they lie peaceful in the water, tied to a weathered wharf or in decay in some tall grass. They are a fisherman’s trusted friend that carries them to the mothership.

Structures

Weathered and worn, they exude an elegance with the their multi-tones of gray and white. Rustic and relaxed, these structures blend seamlessly into the environment with a sense of purity.

Tools

Maine is alive with these tools of the sea. To see them being used every day as part of the journey of a sea person is an exhilarating experience. Finding ways to capture their beauty as an art form brings much joy to the heart.

Islands

There is a stillness to an island; a world once removed from reality with the sounds of the elements blending seamlessly into the land.

Heading Home

The thought of leaving brings on that wish for a little more time. With perhaps one more day, the mind tells us, there may be one more piece of bliss; a chance to take the hike that lay waiting, another morning of soft light, an afternoon to wade in the tidal pools, one more evening to lie quietly listening to the sound of the rolling surf.
